How much does a tow truck cost in Michigan?
Michigan towing typically costs $85 to $135 for the hook-up plus mileage on top, putting a standard local tow between roughly $120 and $200. AA Towing Services starts at $80 for the hook-up plus mileage — below the bottom of that market band — and from $65 for roadside services such as jump starts, lockouts, tire changes and fuel delivery. Because mileage depends on the route, the complete total is quoted on the phone before a truck is dispatched.

What changes the price: distance, vehicle weight and whether it rolls, difficult access such as a parking deck or a soft shoulder, and severe weather. Anything that would change your quote gets told to you before the work starts, not added to the invoice afterwards.
For reference, Michigan hook-up rates generally run $85 to $135 with mileage on top. If someone quotes far outside that, ask why. Michigan also caps non-consensual tow charges — a tow you did not request is a different situation with different rules.
If your car was towed without asking you
That is a non-consensual tow, and it is a different situation with different rules. We do not run impound lots and we are not the company that took your car — but here is what Michigan law gives you, because most people are never told.
- You are entitled to inspect the vehicle and retrieve your personal belongings. The first visit is free; after that an operator cannot charge more than $25 per visit.
- You can challenge both whether the tow was proper and whether the fees are reasonable, in the district court for that area. There are time limits, so do not sit on it.
- Operators must disclose their rates. Michigan also caps the total on a non-consensual tow.
- You can complain to the Michigan Attorney General's Consumer Protection team.

Why do towing companies not publish their prices?
Because vague pricing is profitable when the customer is stressed and has no way to compare. We publish ours because the alternative — you calling four companies from a hard shoulder to find out you are being overcharged — is a bad experience that we would rather not be part of.
What can change the price after I have been quoted?
Only things you would recognise as genuinely different from what you described: the vehicle does not roll, access is much harder than expected, or a second truck is needed. In every one of those cases you hear the new number and approve it before any work happens. Nothing appears on the invoice that was not agreed first.
Is towing cheaper during the day?
Our rates are the same at 3am as at 3pm. Some operators apply overnight or holiday surcharges; we do not, because the moment you need a tow is rarely a moment you chose.
How is a tow priced in Michigan — per mile, or a flat fee?
Almost every Michigan towing invoice is a hook-up fee plus mileage. The hook-up covers sending the truck and getting the vehicle safely loaded; the mileage covers the drive to the destination. Ours starts at $80 for the hook-up, and rather than hand you a rate card to do arithmetic against we give you the finished total on the phone. Long-distance transport is quoted as one flat figure per route instead, because per-mile pricing stops making sense past about 50 miles.
