Because vague pricing is profitable when the customer is stressed and has no way to compare. We publish ours because the alternative — you calling four companies from a hard shoulder to find out you are being overcharged — is a bad experience that we would rather not be part of.

Only things you would recognise as genuinely different from what you described: the vehicle does not roll, access is much harder than expected, or a second truck is needed. In every one of those cases you hear the new number and approve it before any work happens. Nothing appears on the invoice that was not agreed first.

Our rates are the same at 3am as at 3pm. Some operators apply overnight or holiday surcharges; we do not, because the moment you need a tow is rarely a moment you chose.

Almost every Michigan towing invoice is a hook-up fee plus mileage. The hook-up covers sending the truck and getting the vehicle safely loaded; the mileage covers the drive to the destination. Ours starts at $80 for the hook-up, and rather than hand you a rate card to do arithmetic against we give you the finished total on the phone. Long-distance transport is quoted as one flat figure per route instead, because per-mile pricing stops making sense past about 50 miles.

Because the mileage depends entirely on where you are and where the car is going, we give you the complete total on the phone — one number, before a truck is dispatched. If a company will not give you a total before they hook up, that is the moment to call someone else.

Across most of Metro Detroit we average 30 to 45 minutes. Inside Detroit, Warren, Dearborn and Southfield it is often closer to 25 to 35. If you are on a freeway shoulder, say so when you call — those calls get moved to the front because you are in the most dangerous place a stranded driver can be.

Most complete vehicles land between $250 and $700. What moves the number is weight, year, whether the vehicle is complete, and whether the catalytic converter is still on it. A stripped car with no converter and no wheels is worth scrap steel and little else; a heavy complete SUV that simply will not start is worth considerably more. Tell us the year, make, model and what is missing and you get a firm number on the call.

Usually yes if the vehicle is 15 years old or older — Michigan allows those to be sold for scrap on proof of ownership rather than a title, and a photo ID plus the registration or an insurance card normally covers it. If the vehicle is newer than that we need the title in your name. A duplicate title is Form TR-11L at any Secretary of State branch and is usually same-day, so a missing title rarely stops the sale, it just delays it by a day.

Most roadside services start at $65 within our core service area — jump start, lockout, tire change or fuel delivery. Fuel is billed at pump price on top. You hear the number before we dispatch, and it does not change unless the job turns out to be something different than described.

Not the way we do it. We use a regulated commercial booster pack rather than cables run from another vehicle, which is what protects the ECU and other electronics from a voltage spike. Improper cable jumping is genuinely capable of causing expensive electrical damage on a modern car.

No. Air wedge and long-reach tooling is the same non-destructive method dealerships and manufacturers specify. The improvised methods — coat hangers, slim jims, wire down the window seal — are what damage weatherstripping, window regulators and airbag wiring on modern vehicles.

A standard single-truck recovery starts at $125. Recoveries that need a second truck, a snatch block setup, or work on a steep embankment cost more, and the dispatcher will give you a realistic range on the phone once you describe the position the vehicle is in.

Usually yes, if the vehicle was stuck rather than damaged. Our driver will walk the vehicle before you leave and tell you if something looks wrong underneath — a bent tie rod or a torn CV boot from a hard landing is not always obvious from the driver's seat.

Long-haul is quoted per route rather than off a rate card, starting around $150. Detroit to Chicago or Cleveland typically lands in the $600 to $900 range for a standard vehicle. You get one flat written number before we load, and that is the number on the invoice.
